Daniel Arasse (1944-2003) is an art historian, specialised in Italian Renaissance and Director of studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Passionate about painting, one of his important works is “Le Détail: pour une histoire rapprochée de la peinture” (Flammarion, 1992). He directed the French Institute in Florence during the 1980s, where he organised the France Cinéma festival.
