Banham, Reyner

biography

Reyner Banham (1922-1988), architectural and design historian. He trained as a mechanical engineer in aviation. He then joined the Courtauld Instutite and did his thesis with Nikolaus Pevsner. As a professor, Banham taught at the University of London, at the Bartlet and, from 1976, at various universities in the United States (SUNY, New York, Buffalo and Santa Cruz). He was a member of the Independent Group in the 1950s.
