Lupton, Ellen

biography

Ellen Lupton (born 1963) is a graphic designer, curator and critic. She is the (co-)author of numerous books on graphic design, including “Design Is Storytelling, Graphic Design Thinking, Health Design Thinking, Extra Bold: A Feminist, Inclusive, Anti-Racist, Nonbinary Field Guide for Graphic Designers”, and “Thinking with Type”. She teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and is curator emeritus at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, where she organised the exhibitions “Herbert Bayer: Bauhaus Master” and “The Senses: Design Beyond Vision”.
